Spiderman winner and a sweeeet new giveaway from Brushfire Records
I didn't forget about that Spiderman 3 soundtrack contest -- you guys thought of some freaky superpowers. I think Ali's was closest to my own heart, although if I had this superpower I would be ridiculously sleep-deprived from going to a concert every single night, somewhere in the world:
At May 14, 2007 12:12 PM, Ali said...
The superpower I wish I had would have to be the ability to Apparate (referencing the magical Harry Potter-isms), to appear somewhere else (like a pete yorn concert, for instance) *snap* just like that. anytime, anywhere, whenever. no plane tickets, rental cars or luggage necessary.
Ali, please email me your address and I'll get your soundtrack prize pack sent. Thanks for playing!
NEW CONTEST -- and this one may be my favorite yet.
I am a hearty fan of the laid-back quality tunes on Jack Johnson's Brushfire Records label (formerly The Moonshine Conspiracy Records), which was started in 2002 as an offshoot to the surf film collaborative Woodshed Films. Jack birthed this idea in 1998 with Emmett and Chris Malloy during the creation of the surf film Thicker Than Water, and since then they've released soundtracks to several like-minded films, and built up a roster of artists whom I unfailingly enjoy.
So, I recently came across a new bright green Matt Costa t-shirt that I picked up in a schwag bag at a conference last year and it gave me the idea for this new contest. Thanks to the good folks at Brushfire, one random winner will get a fine smattering of the entire artist catalog:
1 Matt Costa CD [previously on Fuel]
1 Money Mark CD [previously on Fuel]
1 ALO CD [previously on Fuel]
1 G. Love CD [previously on Fuel]
1 Jack Johnson CD (your choice)
1 XL Matt Costa t-shirt
1 signed Matt Costa poster
Leave your name and email address (and some pleasant words or a joke or something if you want to make me smile too) in the comments and I will pick one lucky person next Friday.
Let It Be Sung - Jack Johnson w/ Matt Costa & Zach Gill of ALO
Rainbow - Jack Johnson and G. Love
Labels: ALO, brushfire records, contests, g. love, jack johnson, matt costa, money mark

I don't have a joke, or some smooth line to win you over, but what I do have is even better. Lyrics from the greatest song EEEEVER. (even if it has nothing to do w/ Brushfire records)
"I went walking,with my brother
And he wondered,oh,how I am
Said what I believe with my soul
Ain't what I see with my eyes
And there's no turning back this time
I am a patriot,and I love my country
Because my country is all I know
I wanna be with my family
People who understand me
I got no place else to go...
I am a patriot...
I went walking,with my girlfriend
She looked so fine,I said,"Baby, what's on your mind?"
She said,"I wanna run like the lions
Released from their cages
Released from the rages burning in my soul tonight"
I am a patriot...
And I ain't no communist
And I ain't no socialist
And I ain't no capitalist
And I ain't no imperialist
And I ain't no democrat
I sure ain't no republican either
I only know one party, and that is freedom
I am,I am,I am...
I am a patriot,and I love my country
Because my country is all I know
And the rivers shall open for the righteous (X2)
And the rivers shall open for the righteous, someday
Someday,someday,someday..."
I love Jack Johnson and would love the opportunity to listen to some more Matt Costa. Unfortunately I am not at all funny (well, maybe funny looking).

Bringing back memories of Madrid last year. Visting a friend who was studying there. Seeing ALO, Matt Costa and Jack Johnson in this warm, packed bullfighting arena. Turned out I had to make my own fight. Could not move an inch, was being hit quite often and all the foreign students everywhere were LOUD! The sound was awful. Matt was disappointing (still hoping for a second chance soon. Love his music) Jack just saved my musicnight. Next time a concert in good old Holland?
Here's a joke:
Two birds were sitting on a perch. One said to the other "Do you smell fish?"

ok this is not a joke, but something that happened to me on the second week of my american adventure(i.e. getting overcharged by my pricey school, for an education that should have been free, if russia won the cold war ;)
I was listening to "ten" and i was hungry like a catholic, at a four hour long baptism. So i took out an "american frozen pizza" and put it in my oven. I was so entrenched into the music for some reason, i forgot to do something i should have done. anyway after 35 minutes of eddies angst, i went into my kitchen and got my pizza, and started eating it. the first few bites were fine, but within few minutes, i started feeling sick, and as i am about to throw up, i realised i forgot to remove the plastic wrapper on the pizza, and that melted into the cheese and i ate half a pizza, with a lot of cheese and plastic. So i freaked out about it, and called 911, they came over, took me to Umass , and then pumped my stomach, unfortunately, two of my "friends" worked with the emt, and they started to address me as "Plastic boy" in their thick boston accent. And somehow that name spread like a venerial disease, and i was left to rue ever eating a pizza and listening to "ten".. but in the end it was worth the trouble..

Such a generous person you are, giving away cd's, t-shirts, and posters. You are like, like the next Gene Autry...? No, that's not what I meant to say. Mother Theresa; yes, yes, that was it. I get my consonants mixed up all the time, you must understand.
Slept like a log and woke up in the fire but .........it was all fuel for friends which is the only blog title that matters when you consider its innate generosity and the 'heat' generated......
What are we palying for?it is a pure pleasure to read your blog- unalloyed - it's a unique mix of vivacity and sagacity, looked out for like sunshine and summer rain.

Possibly that should read 'playing for' but what's a typo betweeen friends.....
I've just returned from G. Love at Trinity, what an evening. I'm smiling! Just picture a two hour set and you'd have to smile. 'Lemonade' is fantastic. Fantastic choice of artists here.

So a man and his giraffe go into a bar to celebrate the giraffes birthday. So the man keeps buying the giraffe drink after drink until he gets so drunk that he passes out.
The man gets bored and leaves the bar, so the bartender says "Hey! You just gonna leave him *lyin* here?". And the man replies, "Thats not a lion, thats a giraffe!".
Jokes arent as funny in text form (or just not funny at all).
Also, for legitimacy sake, i enjoy your series of informative tales and tunes.

Hi Heather! I admit, I have to stop stalking this blog and comment more often, because it's one of the blogs I keep coming back to no matter what. That has to count for something. I'm horrible with jokes, so that's out. I suppose, then, that I shall have to compliment you mercilessly. :D

Hi Heather,
Keep up the great work with your blog. It has been a great source of hard-to-find music rarities (Counting Crows' first show, Ray LaMontagne's "Crazy" cover, to name a few), new artists I have never heard of, and music news to keep me updated on my favorite artist (Ryan Adams).
Here's a joke for you...
"A man walks into a bar, sits down, and orders a drink. Looking around, he sees a pirate in the corner with a steering wheel on his crotch. Curious, the man walks over to the pirate and asks him why there's a steering wheel on his crotch. The pirate looks up, stares at him, and replies, 'Can't cha see? It's driving me nuts!'"

Hey Heather,
Thanks so much for the giveaway! I met Matt at a mini-concert here at my school earlier this year.. he's a very cool, sweet guy and looove his music.
As for a lame joke, here goes: Two peanuts were walking down the street. One was a salted.

I don’t know any jokes and if I did I wouldn’t even dare to try.
Yes, I know you’re picking the winner at random, but I’d like to plead my case nonetheless. I'm having a lazy day today, and was in the mood for some Matt Costa so I visited his site and interestingly enough, thought about purchasing a shirt. But then I thought again because I've put it off for all this time, why not continue on that path? So, I remembered how a friend referred me to dogpile.com and decided to search for Matt Costa - because sometimes I do silly things like that- and got nothing that I hadn’t previously known. Then, because I’m from Colorado, as you are, (this is a reason I think I should win: less postage. I think. Maybe. No?) I searched ‘Matt Costa Colorado’ because again, I sometimes do unnecessary things, but I saw your blog name in the search results, and since I’m familiar with it and have been here in the past, I decided it was time for a visit. Now, I never win anything but what the hell. I’m all for random occurrences (such as trying out a search engine) leading to something greater (such as getting free things.) Plus, despite my love for Matt Costa, I’ve never really heard any of the others’ stuff, so think of this as a chance to introduce me to some kind-of-but-not-really new music, and that’s always exciting.

Natalee, that's an awesome story. I love the randomness. Here's to hoping that randomly you can win too! :)
