Brushfire Records prepares to liberate the animals, orchestrally (with ALO)
Santa Barbara, California good-time jam band Animal Liberation Orchestra (ALO) is preparing to release their newest album on May 1st, their second on Jack Johnson's Brushfire Records label. Entitled Roses & Clover, it's the follow-up to last year's Fly Between Falls, and a short video is available showing the band in (and around) the studio during the making of the album:[Windows Media] [Quicktime]
This new track surprised me when it started, with the striking piano chords, the expansiveness of the Eagles, and the lyrics about Maria which made my thoughts flash briefly to the Counting Crows. I am very much looking forward to hearing the rest of this album (other tunes are described as "ukulele-led funk workout" and "sun-drenched reggae-tinged" tracks) if this is any indication:

And despite some crazy random APRIL snow showers today (?!) I am planning to head up to Denver tonight to see Peter & The Wolf at the Hi-Dive (with two great others, Saddle Creek's Maria Taylor, and local Gregory Alan Isakov). My pal Dainon originally recommended Peter & The Wolf to me, and since then I have been wanting to catch his live show, which I hear is superb. Hello Heather. Greetings from the stupid, senseless south (Argentina). Last night was really a bad night, me and a friend decided to just be depressed around my house so we started listening to music and beign both Evan Dando fans just went ahead and tried to get as many websites featuring him - so we reached your blog and it was a really excellent find, overall! Your passion for music makes me envy, i waste so much time and effort in some many other bullshit aspects in life and most of the times i feel i releged that side somehow - thanks again and i will drop by often! :)
I want to know if you actually saw Peter and his Wolf this time (especially cause he actually has a couple people to flesh out his sound this time around). He's coming to town tonight.
And I thought I told you about his music first ... then again, if it was Chris, he's the one who was kind enough to let me know abut him as well.

Yes, Dainon, you are indeed correct, thank you for correcting my failing memory! You are the superstar who first recommended P&TW for me, how could I have forgotten? The show was mixed, I don't think that warm, scratchy sound from the album translated very well live. Some parts were good. Some were unlistenable.
Heather, hope you enjoyed Gregory! He's a good friend of mine and one of my favorite songwriters. I've been meaning for some time to recommend his music to you. Glad you had the opportunity to hear him last night. :)
It's cause he's sober this trek out. Ha. I dunno ... maybe he was nervous. Sometimes he's good, sometimes he's not. It's the way that ball bounces.
