You asked: Ray LaMontagne, live & unreleased

The single most requested re-up that I get these days is for some of the older live and unreleased Ray LaMontagne songs. I am happy to finally re-post some fantastic live unreleased stuff from him, in honor of me seeing Ray in Denver next Monday. These are mostly all courtesy of a fantastic girl named Jaimie who is relentless in collecting these, and I am appreciative for the goodness they have bestowed upon my ears.

  3. Ray has been commenting at shows how its a Nina Simone cover, not bee gees.

That makes things a little better.

  4. Marci, maybe you didn't read all the songs on this post you just commented on, but Until The Sun Turns Black is right there with a live version from KEXP. It also appears on his album of the same name, Till The Sun Turns Black.

  5. Yeah nat, I'd more likely cop to Nina Simone than the brothers Gibb, but according to SecondHand Songs, the Gibb brothers wrote it and their single came out 2 years before Nina Simone. For what it's worth.

    side note:
"To Love Somebody" is a Bee Gee's song. He gives credit to it at the Orpheum show. - see my video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1_BZBoAeZQU

-btw thanks for that Sad and Lonesome Boy song I didn't have it.

  13. Thank you! These reposts are fantastic, I'm always amazed at how you range over such obscure (but delightful) stuff. have you heard the elvis costello version of brilliant disguise?

  15. Heather,

Ray LaMontagne is great. I am not a "folk music" fan generally, but there is something about his music that way transcends what puts me off about most of that genre.

Plus he's from up in Maine where I grew up.

    Bruce K.

  16. Hey Bruce K., I think what I like about Ray vs. other musicians in that genre is his soulful passion and wailing. He just lets it loose and doesn't hold back or be aloof.

  17. I'll tell you who I love: Ray LaMontagne, Pearl Jam, and Heather.

  34. THANKS HEATHER!

I just stumbled across your blog tonight after watching the Austin City show and looking for one of the tracks. I honestly can't tell you when I have ever come across music that i haven't heard before and immediately adopted it so quickly and passionately. I love everything about his music and lyrics and I can't go a day without listening to it. I wasn't aware of all the live versions kicking around and songs I haven't heard. I can't wait for this to download so I can have a listen.

    Thanks again for the repost.

p.s. I will be checking your blog on a regular basis now that I have found it.

    Cheers,

    Adam
