what album is this one from?
I think it was originally on the out-of-print 2002 album Country Was.
Very nice. I hope the OOP stuff gets rereleased on CD as well.
What happened to this blog it use to be the best for finding rare tracks and great new tracks but it seems to be on a serious slide.

The more you post about the Avetts the more the site does start a serious slide... into awesomeness. Saw them on Halloween and left speechless. These boys are something else.
just clicking on your stat tracker shows the decline. numbers don't lie. you are over reliant on your amateur looking pictures and personal concert reviews and seem obsessed with beating us over the head with how many shows you attend. fuelfriends is starting to resemble all the other music blogs. sadly.

long time reader... that's not very nice. i write fuelfriends as a hobby, out of what i love. you are welcome to read, or not read. i couldn't care less about stats. i've been going through an unbelievably difficult patch in my real, non-online life, and as a result, i sometimes have less time for fuelfriends. i guess i can't please everybody all the time. luckily that's not my goal.
In difficult times one often turns back to the music that speaks to them most directly. If, to an outsider, that seems repetitive - well too bad. I read FuelFriends because my musical tastes are closely aligned with Heather's but divergent enough that I trust her recommendations.
As Heather noted some time ago the desperate need of many MP3 blogs to be the trendiest and first to notice soem obscure band that no one will give a crap about three months from now (my words, not hers) make for quantity not quality.
I don't recall ever being asked to give money for the multiple hours of awesome goodness I've been exposed to at FuelFriends. Maybe "longtimereader" could point us to their own awesome music blog that they write simply out of passion and love for music?
Frankly, that's what comes through here to me. The feeling of wonder, emotion and abandon that music can bring. I'll go elsewhere for my trendy 100 bands of this week stuff thank you very much.
i've been reading this site since february 2006 (long enough to know this was never a trendy site but it used to be more relevant and interesting), i've met heather and would hardly call myself an outsider.
i'm sure heather pays for all the shows she photographs, absolutely...to say there are no benefits to having a site of this magnitude is moronic. i'd say there is probably an additional 8-10k in ad revenue involved plus nearly unlimited access to shows and festivals. even if i don't pay for the content i view on this site i'm going to feel free to offer my opinions. that's why there is a comment section. running a site of this size isn't that hard, once you become as big as fuelfriends the music comes to you.

Why not get another hobby, like knitting or punching yourself in the groin? I mean, you have a lot of time to spend, visiting websites you don't like for years. I notice you aren't running a site or at least you didn't want to share it with us. I guess that way you can stay small and not have access to shows because that's the way you like it. Kudos to you. You win.

Thanks for being the Fuel. I'll continue to be your Friend. And thanks for the heads-up regarding the Avett Brothers. My friend, Jordan, brought them to my attention at the same time you did. You two would get along famously. I was able to find a couple out-of-print AB albums, thanks to you!
Make sure you pick up Rosie Thomas' new Christmas album. Her re-arrangements of some holiday classics seemed awkward at first listen but now I love them (yes, it came out today and I've been through the album multiple times).
