New contest :: Fujiya and Miyagi's knickerbocker glory

I have no idea what Brighton's Fujiya & Miyagi are enticingly chanting over their sleek electronic beats in this song, the first single from their new album Lightbulbs (out now on Deaf, Dumb & Blind Records). With a sound described as "maybe Serge Gainsbourg with a PhD in electronics backed by David Byrne’s Eno-produced scratchy guitar mixed by MF Doom," this album is effortlessly cool.

FUJIYA & MIYAGI: "KNICKERBOCKER"

If you are confused by the lyrics but dig F&M as much as I do (or want to give em a shot) I have a prize pack for a lucky winner -- one copy of the new album Lightbulbs and a Fujiya & Miyagi tshirt.

Have at it in the comments if you'd like to win.

i work with a bunch of japanese students and i always mess with them and ask why they haven't heard of fujiya and miyagi...i suppose there is probably a japanese band out there named "dickens and clark" (or something else obnoxiously english-sounding)...Christian

I wore out their first CD. Played it for, what, two years before this one finally came out? Playing it on the radio is a real plus, too, especially if someone calls in to ask who it is. Try saying the band name three times fast. It really truly sounds amazing ... or that you were a huge fan of the Karate Kid films. Something like that.

Man, I want that T-shirt.

It's too early in the morning for me to think of anything clever to write. But I know I'd like a prize!

That CD might help now that I am thinking about. Yeah it really would!
