Last night: Supergrass covers 1978-era Police, before Sting went all tantric and Fields of Gold
[one spot of loud audio at the beginning - it gets better!]
Supergrass rocked what felt like a secret show last night at Denver's tiny Larimer Lounge, after the Foo Fighters cancellation at the larger venue up the road. "Hellooooo Red Rocks!" Gaz Coombes shouted as they took the stage, looking back at his bandmates with a grin. With three of the band members sporting matching fedoras, they launched into a short but intense set of songs drawn largely from their new album Diamond Hoo Ha, which all sounded ferocious --and very, very loud-- in the compact club. Three merry Britons next to me seemed elated by their dumb luck of seeing one of Britain's biggest bands of the Nineties (who regularly play to massive festivals and stadiums) in the well-loved confines of our Larimer.

heh, nice headline :) dig the guitar solo.
Thanks for recording and posting the video -- I didn't even think of bringing my Xacti with me last night. Great great great show!! Probably the best cover of "next to you" I've ever heard live, as well.
Hmmm... as a staunch Police-man, I was hoping to bash them about this, but I have to say they didn't ruin it, and they even had a go at the Andy Summers slidey guitar solo that Stewart Copeland denonunced at the time as "old wave bullshit".
Nowadays people treat B sides just like peanuts but in the past the truth hit everybody with visions of the night. You have no time this time to pay your landlord because nothing was being achieved but the fallout of that understanding was the reality of a dead end job. Only with a B side could you walk on the true darkside of the moon of fandom....loved hearing this being ripped into with joy, desire and elan. As Mr.K.Bacon would say:'it's a smile'.
Wait, wait, wait. God knows there's a lot to hate about post-Police Sting, but "Fields of Gold" is something of a pop masterpiece....isn't it? (Or am I just a dork?)
Wow. Supergrass are great live and I'm seriously jealous you saw them in such a small place. Keep up the good blogging.
It would appear that the video is no longer available on YouTube. :-( Did you remove it or did YouTube?
hey larry, I just watched it - try reloading?
I bet this was amazing! I saw them in Seattle, Portland and LA. Did you get to talk to them at all?
