Counting Crows on WXPN/World Cafe Friday

Yesterday afternoon, the Counting Crows played a tough-to-get-into set on the WXPN World Cafe stage in Philadelphia. According to a friend who was there: "Adam was incredible . . . There was magic in the room. [They were] really gracious and thankful to be offered the opportunity to do this. What a day here."

The Crows played eight songs from their forthcoming album Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings; this is the widest look into their new work that we've gotten yet.

There are four songs from Saturday Nights, four from Sunday Mornings, and Adam introduces each one with an in-depth commentary on the story behind the song, and revealing the threads that tie it to other songs in the Counting Crows back catalog. It's a pretty neat way to have a first listen to an album, like they're sitting in your living room walking you through it. Have yourself a listen:

nice post heather. They will be playing at the Bowery Ballroom in NYC this Sunday. And they were on the music channel the Fuse early this week. As the album release approaches expect to see a lot more Counting Crows on TV.

I was at the show. It was packed-as-sardines tight, and I couldn't believe how many people were either late or couldn't stay the whole time. I was right by the door, which opened, seemingly, every 20 seconds. What a distraction it was.

Nevertheless, it was a good show, and I enjoyed Adam's commentary preceding each song.

The sound in World Cafe Live, caddy-corner from where I work, is among the best you'll find anywhere in the world. So crisp and clean.

One note - they played 1492 live a bunch of times in 2001, when they were working on the songs for Hard Candy. 1492 didn't make the record, but they pulled it out for this album. This version of it is significantly improved from the 2001 version, imo.

I've just listened to the show from XPN Live Fridays, and I immediately came here hoping that there would have been a way to download it. Thank you so much.
That's the only chance I have right now to "participate" in the show since I live in Italy.
Hope you understand my english.
See ya!

I downloaded this bootleg the night after they preformed and have been listening repeatedly since. Swimming in the composition and explanation behind everything. I really wanted to post it up somewhere, but mostly I'm just glad it's available for everyone. I see you cut out the radio announcers. Good call. Think I might go back and edit mine too. Although I like the riff it starts up with. Anyhow, glad that there's a fellow Counting Crows bootleg-er to spread the music round. Adam's proud I'm sure.

Be well,
God bless,

-as
