Jack White will rock you as he upholsters; plus scads of White Stripes b-sides
Thanks to a fantastic UK pal who shall remain nameless, my Sunday of struggling with re-tiling my shower (seriously and hint: don't try it) has been significantly brightened. Behold a bonanza of White Stripes b-sides AND three songs from Jack White's stint in The Upholsterers (a circa 2000 project with Brian Muldoon).
I find the White Stripes fascinating and brutal and talented, with their minimalistic rawness and fierce bluesy rock always hitting the spot. As an aspiring female drummer myself, I like Meg's work, as simple as it is. I remember reading someone's celebrity playlist on iTunes a good two years ago and whoever it was said of the White Stripes single "Blue Orchid" that it made their balls tingle (sorry Mom). Although I have no firsthand experience with that particular sensation, I'll agree that it sounds pretty apt for most of these songs as well. Get ready for . . . a sea of red and black.

Heather, I would tile your shower any day of the week.
Thanks for the Stripes.
The cover of Bob Dylan's "Lovesick" is AMAZING.
I remember once reading a quote from Dylan when he said something about how Hendrix basically owns "All Along the Watchtower", and captured the song better than he ever did, even as the writer. I can totally see him saying the same about this.
Time and time again you come through, Heather! You are truly the Queen of all Bloggers. I'm not tiling your shower, though. That's why I rent!!
Absolutely proper. Thanks again for such a great blog.
so good...so very very good
Here's to a decade of virtuosic symbiosis. LOVE Denial Twist..and you.
SWEET.
"Shelter of Your Arms" is a Greenhornes cover. Just wanted to give some lovin to the the great band that died so that the Raconteurs could live.
Kel J, you rock. Thanks for helping us remember that sacrifice.
Thanks Heather.
(And Kel J - that's a great title for a blogpost!)
Hey Ryan, thanks! And Heather thanks for giving the Greenhornes some props. Wasn't trying to be a smart ass or anything. The Greenhornes are just to cool not to be given credit.
I first saw them live in 2001 and they just blew my mind. I took my Dad to see them at the end of July and he loved them. I think he loved Meg more, but such were our seats. Anyway, I snagged the .zip file and wanted to say thanks!
I'll tile your shower for you. But it's a long walk from California.
I think if you like Rogue Wave you'd like Phoenix and the Turtle. They played together awhile ago at the Glass House I think.
Meanwhile on the other side of the world...
Due to the international dateline and stuff I only just read this post. And, literally as I scrolled past the Shelter of Your Arms track I was listening to The Greenhornes version, which, I'm a trifle ashamed to say, I've only just discovered.
And now, through the power of the internet, and of course, this dear little website, I get to hear a comparative version! Back-to-back! Hurrah!
And then I learn, through your informed readers comments, they're related to The Raconteurs. And while always a Brendon Benson fan, the other members, I've neglected. But now, I have reason to seek out more.
About the only thing that could make life more complete might be a little monkey to pour me another glass of wine, but you know, mmmm.
Fruity.
Mike 5. I love that last sentence. Best....ever. Thanks for making me laugh out loud. Glad you enjoyed the demos.
Thank you so, much!!! This is absolutely amazing.
Sadly, I cannot get at any of the files. Have they expired?
Yeah, they all expired except the Upholsterers stuff.
Oh no I need this zip file I must've just missed it! Could you temporarily repost or at least email me the file at j.sipkins@yahoo.com ?! I'd gladly tile your shower!
I think they've expired.
Pleaseeeee repost them.
can't believe i'm late this time... please repost it. at least the zip file. pretty please.
Jack White makes me buy vinyls again. and god, they smell sexy...
ps. how's your shower, Heather? last year i wanted to kill the guy who tiled my bathroom, so i know what you've been going through...
I would also like to beg for a repost. I have been stuck on dial up and finally back on high speed. This is the first site I pulled up in hopes to finally download the Stripes. Please...I beg of you!
Anon, email me.
Hi, I came across your site looking for white stripes b-sides and I'm too little too late it seems. Now sadly, I'm hooked as it seems we listen to a lot of similar music. Especially enjoyed your reviews of the Wilco and Ryan Adams concerts, downloaded that early counting crows show, and always enjoy reading anyone's impression of Elvis. So... Thanks!
Heather
The White Stripes are my favorites!!! I am so bummed they cancelled their tour...
I would love to have these B sides. Is there anyway you can repost or send them to me??
Many many thanks! It would be sooooooo appreciated.
