Pearl Jam to play pre-Lolla, fanclub only show at Chicago's Vic Theatre

Hot off the heels of another mindblowing show from Ryan Adams last night (more on that later), my email tells me of another show I should perhaps consider sacrificing a kidney to be at:

Pearl Jam will be in Chicago next week to headline Lollapalooza on August 5th. They announced yesterday that they will be playing a fanclub-only show at Chicago's historic, cozy, Vic Theatre on the night of August 2nd. The Vic only holds 1300, and being at a fanclub-only show would be just fantastic (hopefully that would mean no one hollering "Jeremy! Play Jeremyyyyyyyyyy!" and fewer cries of "Marry me Eddie!" -- oh wait, that might have been me).

Tix go on-sale tomorrow at http://www.pearljam.com/goods for the stab-you-in-your-gut price of $150 a pair.

Looking out for their ubernerd fans like this is one more reason why I love them (although . . . maybe they love their wealthy ubernerd fans more?). Should be an amazing show, I wish I could be there.

Didn't Pearl Jam lead the whole "anti-Ticketmaster gouging" movement in the 90's? How exactly can they justify this pricing?

I don't blame a band for wanting to make a living, but come on now. This is absurd.

If I wasn't still in Iraq I'd take a stab in the gut to be there...

Well, if you consider it will gross approx. $100,000 .....it's not that bad. It's probably 5 times less what they do on a standard tour night.

Still.....$100 for the pair would have been better.

Is it time for a ticket grovel already ?

Flying in from NJ, well, hopefully.

Let's be realistic, the band has a history of charity, and I'm sure they'll be donating money from this show to local charities. It's not like the band's asking for thousands and thousands of dollars per ticket. If I had the time and money I'd be there in a heartbeat.

Pearl Jam is an overrated band and has not been commercially vaiable in years. Artistically... we'll they haven't grown much either.

Yeah, I wish I had the time and money and I'm sure that some portion of the ticket price will go to local charities. It does seem, however, that their prices are creeping up to vintage act level. They used to base their low ticket emphasis on making sure the "kids" can get to the show. Now they seem to have realized that their prime audience is in their 30's. Unfortunately, the percentage increase of my income has not gone up as much as ticket prices in the last ten years.

$75 a tix for a 1300-seat theater fan club only show in Ed's home town, a place where the shows are always amazing? Sounds like a bargain to me.

never a fan club member cause they never really come around chicago that often - especially in recent years. Sure they did a 2-night stint at the united center in 06 but that is a venue with good sound to be desired. And of course there was the $1,000 ticket to see them at the house of blues (out of my range). point is they don't play good venues around here.

i'm going to lolla but would much like to see them here.

What are the odds of joining the club prior to ticket sales and getting tickets?

What time are ticket sales?

Joseph, you had to be a fanclub member as of last Friday. Boo! Sorry. Here is the full email they sent me, maybe you can find a nice fanclub member who'll take you if you buy them a beer. :)

******************************

An exciting, rare show opportunity awaits you!

As you already know, Pearl Jam will be headlining the Lollapalooza Festival on August 5th. In preparation for the big Lolla event, they have decided to perform a smaller show on August 2nd at the legendary Vic Theatre in Chicago!

We are inviting you all to this special pre-Lollapalooza performance, but the Vic is an intimate little joint and therefore, we have a limited number of tickets to sell. However, we are offering the opportunity for you to purchase a pair of tickets for $150 USD plus applicable fees. No single tickets will be available. Tickets will be first come/first serve. These tickets will be general admission, with no early entry. This show is 18 and over.

The ticket sale will begin on Thursday, July 26, 2007 at 11am PDT. To purchase these tickets, please visit the web-store at http://www.pearljam.com/goods. The pre-sale will end July 28th at 5pm PDT or while supplies last. We expect the tickets to sell out, so please understand that SOLD OUT means sold out.

Before you purchase these tickets, please make sure you are able to attend ... Check with your boss to make sure you have the time off, check your bank account to make sure you have the funds necessary for travel expenses, etc. As a rule of thumb, if you purchase, you are expected to attend.

Rules:
* This is NOT an all- ages event. You AND your guest must be 18 years of age to attend. IDs will be checked at the door.
* You must be an active member as of Friday, July 20, 2007.
* All sales are final. No refunds. No exchanges. No transfers. No way!

Instructions:
1) TO PURCHASE, go to http://www.pearljam.com/goods and click on Chicago Tickets. Purchasing a quantity of 1 means you are purchasing a PAIR (2) of tickets. No single tickets will be available. Please make sure the billing address is accurate for the credit card you will be using. Visa and MasterCard are the only accepted forms of payment.

2) WAIT ... We will notify you via email with an additional confirmation once the pre-sale has ended. This confirmation will contain more information about how to receive your tickets. You can view the successful ticket order in your Ten Club Profile, by logging into your Ten Club account, click on PROFILE; your order history can be viewed in this screen.

3) KEEP WAITING- Ten Club tickets WILL NOT be mailed to you in advance of the show, but must be collected at the box office on the day of the performance. You must be present and show an official form of photo identification to collect the tickets. In lieu of hard tickets, you and your guest will be wristband-ed at the box office, so both parties must be present. Bear with us - this is to help prevent scalping!

Again, please understand we have a limited amount of tickets, but we would like to give every member this wonderful opportunity regardless of location or seniority! Give love!

Questions can be directed to tickets@tenclub.net, or by calling toll free 1-800-724-8038.

Good luck to you all!

Awesome to include this info on your site (and not surprising since you are self-proclaimed diehard who has provided some tunes I had not previously quarantined in my PJ archives). I'm a fanclub member and will be trying my absolute hardest with my trigger-mouse finger to be getting these tickets when they go on sale at 1:00 PM CST today but I'm not counting my chickens. As for those who think that $150 is too much for a PAIR! of tickets, I just don't see that at all. This is for their fanclub for one thing and reading the message boards I think some people would be willing to give a kidney and at least part of their liver to get into this show. Even being a fanclub member I have an estimated 1/30 shot of getting this ticket. Admittedly, it will be much cheaper for me as I live in Milwaukee. If I can't see them at the Vic I can console myself with the fact that Lolla is close and I will be there too! I would be very surprised as has been mentioned already if the vast majority of this money doesn't go to local charities... as did their funds from the HOB show a few years back. This band is highly socially responsible and an absolute benefit to society! Hail, Hail. I continue to love your blog.......

I was there the second the tickets went on sale, it was impossible to get through. Now they are "temporarily out of stock," which means obsessives like me will keep trying just in case. It's a nice idea, but the web sale was a disaster. Sigh.

I'm flipping out right now because I think I may have actually scored tickets to the Vic show. I've got an email confirmation of my order, anyway. I still don't quite believe it. I never thought it would actually happen, but I had to try.

I love this band and thank you, Heather, for providing so many rarities through your blog. I found you via the Hype Machine many months ago and am always tickled by your Pearl Jamminess.

To the previous poster, keep trying. I got the Out of Stock message before I realized I already had a pair in my shopping cart from one of my previously timed out attempts.
