Ryan Adams :: "Ah, snap - afternoon jams!" on NPR's World Cafe today

Earlier today at the noontime hour, lucky denizens of the city of brotherly love got a treat from Ryan Adams and the Cardinals, sounding fantastic and amiable on NPR's World Cafe. From a friend who was there, the report comes in that "Ryan had on a suit and tie and black sunglasses the whole time, a very John Cusack look." He also is still not playing guitar due to a torn ligament -- but definitely not as bad as that broken wrist from falling off the stage in Liverpool. Check out this fine little setlist, and for those of you who have heard Easy Tiger -- whaddaya think? The album is out June 26th from Lost Highway.

And in related news (via . . . the fact that they're pals, and last time I saw them in concert it was together) - who else is in for Jesse Malin tonight at the Bluebird? He's playing with Acute, who I featured on a previous Monday Music Roundup, and it should be a good show. I keep thinking of this; I'm excited.

He's something, isn't he? He just keeps getting better. I think we're in for a long, wonderful ride from lil' Ryan. Thanks as always, Heather, and have a great weekend.

Thanks for this... BTW I was there today and they played an additional 4 or 5 songs of air, afterwards. It was amazing. I hope somebody somewhere locates the full show. Thanks again for posting!

Sweet. I was just about to go to World Cafe and try to re-listen to this and record it onto my mp3 player and and and and there you already have it sittin' on a plate.

This is good, because I need something now to not only drown out my idiotic annoying flatmate, but her moronic twittering boyfriend too. Have a great weekend =)

Thanks for posting this... it was a great show - Ryan's vocals were outstanding.

The two songs played off-air were "Dear John" and "Carolina Rain".

Ah, that's wonderful, the vocals sound superb. I saw him and the Cardinals recently at Koko in London, and the show was equally good.

As far as Easy Tiger, I love it - it's not the homogenous record that all the reviews seem to be claiming, it's just as eclectic as his other output (moving from rock to quite hardcore country to almost folk) but it sure is a great listen

I also love Easy Tiger. There are a couple weak moments (Off Broadway to name one), but the way it captures all of his different sounds is a real treat. And that harmonica on the last song gives me the chills.

I was listening to that show Friday. Strange, yet awesome, he chose to kick out the slow jams.

ah snap, thanks HB. i am a bit late on this, but after listening thru, i feel the set in its entirety might be a little toooo slow jammy for my listening delight, but i will enjoy it in small servings. gracias.

Okey, wow! I work at World Cafe, and after being there for this, was really bummed that I couldn't find a copy from anybody (XPN folk or World Cafe sound techs). His performance was AMAZING, I liked the mellowed out versions of 'Oh My God', 'Let it Ride' and 'Winding Wheel' plus all the other new stuff! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for providing the zip file... you have seriously made my week here!!!
