New Ryan Adams song: "France"

Just in time to get you excited about his Lollapalooza appearance, there is a new Ryan Adams song called "France" (now called "Lovely and Blue") streaming on his website.

Others have said (and I will concur) that it sounds like something that The Clash or The Strokes might feel a certain affinity for. I do like Ryan's rocker side (this sounds like it could have been on Rock N Roll), but I am not sure if I like this one yet. I am giving it a few more listens.

I would post the mp3 here, but at this point in time I think I am good with no jail time. Thanks. (Justin, however, is braver than I)

BONUS TUNES: Ryan debuted three new songs at the 7/22/06 Norfolk show, which is now online at the Live Music Archive (he allows live recordings). If you are interested:

Promises - Ryan Adams

Breakdown Into The Resolve - Ryan Adams

Everybody Knows - Ryan Adams

Damn, I knew you'd have this. On a whim, because you know the kooky stuff he puts on his site, I stopped by for a visit. Catchy song, and that may be the problem, could be a bit too catchy.

I'm loving "France" so far. For a while, it seemed like Ryan's new stuff was all really mellow, piano ballads with "sad bastardy" type lyrics. (i.e. "Don't Get Sentimental On Me", "Maps", "Everything Dies", "Two", and "Two Hearts" which all debuted during the UK tour in February) Don't get me wrong, I adored the sad bastard songs, but I like the change of pace on this particular song. It makes me want to rock out hard core! The same goes for "Breakdown into the Resolve".

As you can doubtless imagine, I'm so excited to hear this when I get home.

In reference to the comment above - have you heard "Don't Get Sentimental On Me"? It was the opening track at the Glasgow show in February, and I fell in love. I'll send it to you (live version from Glasgow) tonight if you don't have it already?

I have indeed heard "Don't Get Sentimental on Me". I was at the Bristol show where Ryan also played it and I have a couple other recordings of it from the UK tour.
