Bacchanalia of unreleased Ray LaMontagne & new album news

Phonetic guide: Ray La-Montaine (that's how you say it, Nathaniel). You could also substitute the words "freaking awesome" or "I can't believe how good he is" in a pinch. Same effect.

Billboard reports:
“Ray LaMontagne is in the midst of finishing his next RCA studio album with hopes to release it in early August. The artist has been recording with producer Ethan Johns at Allaire Studios in Shokan, N.Y. The pair previously worked together on LaMontagne's 2004 debut, Trouble, which has sold 239,000 copies in the United States.

According to a spokesperson, the as-yet-untitled effort will be preceded by a short North American tour in July, a month after he finishes a stint supporting David Gray in the United Kingdom. As previously reported, LaMontagne released the Live from Bonnaroo 2005 EP last December, which included the previously unreleased song "Empty."

Because of the goodwill in my heart towards anyone who would also call Ray LaMontagne friend, I am opening my vaults. Here is a slew of unreleased tracks to sate you until the new album is released:

RAY LAMONTAGNE LIVE & UNRELEASED
01. Amy
02. Lesson Learned
03. Until The Sun Turns Black
04. Country Girl
05. Still Can't Feel The Gin (I love this song, also posted back in December)
06. You Should Belong To Me
07. I Can Get High
08. Life Is Long
09. Can I Stay? - (also posted this as well, absolutely gorgeous)
10. Half Alive
11. Sarah
12. Write You A Letter
13. Lead Me On
14. Stone's Throw From Lonesome
15. You Got What I Want (So Why Don't You Give It To Me?)
16. Katie Belle (Gettin' High)
17. Simple Consolation
18. Three More Days
19. Heaven is a Honky Tonk

THESE LINKS ARE DEAD, but I re-posted most of these (and more) here.

Oh, and did we mention he does wicked Gnarls Barkley covers?

CONCERT ALERT:
If you're in Colorado, consider heading on down to the Springs tonight (Friday night) for the Roger Clyne & The Peacemakers show at the Black Sheep. Absolutely one of my favorite live acts, period - if you come, you will not be disappointed. We'll all kick back some Mexican Moonshine together. And then tune in this weekend for the results of my first ever real interview for the Fuel blog - I will be talking with Roger Clyne about the future of rock 'n' roll and sharing the gems of wisdom with you. Wish me luck, I'm goin' in!

Heather! Thanks so much for these Ray LaMontagne downloads. I've loved his music for a while, and had the chance to see him open for Dave Matthews last year at Randall's Island. Simply incredible. He's so unassuming, almost painfully shy, isn't he? But when he starts singing, it's like soulful fire.

Looking forward to the Roger Clyne interview. I've loved the Refreshments since their inception and have worn out both of their albums, but haven't purchased any of the peacemakers - YET, just something I haven't gotten around to. I'll correct that soon. Tell the man to keep up the good work.

Thanks for the Ray stuff - you're blog tuned me in to his music. The first song that really got me was 'empty' when you posted it. I love the words and agree it sounds a little (musically) like Ryan's 'Winding Wheel'. This will be in the CD changer as I drive to work next week.

You are a star.

Miss Browne (or perhaps Mrs.) - I discovered your blog through The-Hype-Machine. There was the collection of Ryan Adams songs that initially drew me in. And now Ray Lamontagne. I have no words. I have officially subscribed to your feed. Thank you so much for sharing such great music and good writing. You have a new fan.

Question: Ray did a song on Austin City Limits this year that he said he wrote after Johnny Cash died. It was amazing, but I have NO idea what it was called or if it has been recorded. Anyone else know?

First Response to all the excellent music on this blog. How can I not be appreciative of these tracks? They should name a day of the week after you.

Also, the song Ray sung on Austin City Limits re:Johnny Cash was Heaven Is A Honky Tonk. Naturally.

I've been listenin to Ray since I saw him on Conan O'Brian at the end of '04, and that's pretty much all I listen to, to this day. "Sarah" is one of my fave's, and I'm not listing anymore, cuz I wouldn't be able to stop. Ray is the greatest lyricist of this generation and then some others, and on top of that, no one's had a voice like his since Otis Redding. And if you don't already know, them's reeeaaaal big words there.

not only did you allow me to download 19 of the finest songs by one of the finest artists, ray lamontagne, you concluded it with a quote by nick hornby. bestill my heart. thank you for making my 4th of july THAT much better; i appreciate you so very much. i agree with nick that music can somehow without fail defy any and all attempts we may so valiantly give to providing words for our feelings. ray manages to do that with all of his songs which is why he pulled me in with his lyrics and his music. thank you.

Hey thanks for all the song. Ive been looking for more of his stuff for a long time. Over here in the uk he is only just getting noticed.
You should check out a singer called Damien Rice (damienrice.com) who i think is just as good if not better. Songs like "The Blowers Daughter" and "Delicate" are truely moving.

Thanks again

Hi Heather! I discovered Ray a couple of months ago and finally saw him live at the Orpheum in Los Angeles 11/9. I don't know if I can explain this properly, but I want live like his voice. Full of anguish and pain, but also intense love and beauty. I can't believe it has taken me this long to find someone I can say is my favorite singer of all time, but he would be the one. Sorry for rambling, you the first person I told this to. Anyway, I was looking for the lyrics to "You Should Belong To Me." and you blog came up. I really wish I was here back in April when you put up the RL downloads. Do you think you would ever upload them again? I hope so. Until, I'm killing my iPod. I just bought his newest CD, but I would love to relive the feeling I got when I finally seen him live. That man took my breath away. Peace.

WOW- Pearl Jam Quote, Ray LaMontagne songs. You have great taste in music. Two of my most absolute favorite artists-
Saw Ray LaMontagne at the Wiltern in LA in '05 and just bought tickets to see him in Nashville 10/19. Still haven't seen Pearl Jam. I should have gone to Bonaroo- but I didn't want to see all those kids my daughters age, stoned and making mistakes (I missed out on a good thing and a bad thing- guess I'm even)

At October 13, 2008 10:43 PM, Blogger Unknown said...

Thanks so much for re-upping these. Ray is so brilliant, and I can't wait to see him at the Wiltern in LA on 11/2. Have been dying to hear "Acre Of Land"/"Green" and "One Lonesome Saddle", the self-released albums. Has anyone got those?

I was wondering if you could re upload these as these links don't seem to work anymore and I cannot find these songs anywhere....
Thanks
